James P. (Jim) Winship is an Associate Professor of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater. As a professional storyteller, he has performed at the Illinois Storytelling Festival, the Wisconsin Annual Storytelling Get-Together, the Door County Storytelling Festival, and at professional conferences, libraries, bookstores, and schools. He was the recipient of a 1998 Wisconsin Humanities Council grant to produce and perform the storytelling performance, "Down and Out and Out on the Street: Poverty in the Great Depression and Homelessness Today in Wisconsin". He is currently on the Wisconsin Humanities Council Speakers Bureau for that performance and another, "The Call of Stories". Jim performs a variety of stories, including personal stories, bi-lingual (Spanish and English) stories, stories to stimulate student writing, stories in the magical realism genre, and original takes on traditional stories. |
