The Intersection of Art Avenue, Song Street and Word Way
That's where you'll find John Duggleby, award-winning author and multi-faceted performer. John combines these creative arts in lively, interactive programs based on artists Grant Wood and Jacob Lawrence, and musical legends John Lennon and Ray Charles, subjects of four of his biographies for young people. Hundreds of schools, libraries, museums and other venues across the U.S. have enjoyed his unique way of proving that "informative entertainment" need not be an oxymoron. John tailors his programs for audiences ranging from preschool to senior citizens. His conga drum looms large in the Jacob Lawrence presentation, while he is joined in the Grant Wood show by his co-star and live Plymouth Rock chicken, Henrietta the Fowl Fatale. The John Lennon and Ray Charles programs rock with electric guitar and organ, while audience members sing along and even join in the band. Blended into the fun of these programs are uplifting messages of encouragement to believe in yourself and follow your dreams. John's books have received many honors, including the National Council for the Social Studies' Elementary Book of the Year.
He is funded for qualified groups through the Madison Civic Center's
"Arts Alive" program. Book copies and references are available upon request. |
